Lorde, Rick Astley, Skrillex, Gotye & More Appear In Hilarious Australian Video: Watch

Lorde, Rick Astley, Skrillex, Steve Aoki, Paul Kelly and Flume are among the laundry-list of hip and household-name artists who appear in a hilarious new clip created by Australia’s Triple J radio network.

In the video, Triple J’s weekday breakfast DJs Matt and Alex gather more than 40 artists in the studio to ostensibly record a “theme song” for the national broadcaster's annual Hottest 100 poll. It soon becomes blatantly obvious why such a challenge has never been issued in the famous poll’s 20-year-plus history.

Music nerds with a love of the Australian scene should get a real kick from the clip. The likes of The PresetsMegan WashingtonCourtney Barnett, Angus & Julia Stone, Hilltop Hoods, Vance Joy, Illy and Peking Duk all play their roles to perfection. Astley rickrolls the whole gag and Gotye steps in with a ukulele to try save the day.

The Hottest 100 poll is an institution Down Under. It’s become the unofficial soundbed to the annual Jan. 26 “Australia Day” national celebrations, and is now the “world’s biggest musical democracy,” according to the state funded broadcaster. The most recent poll, which gathered upwards of 1.49 million votes from more than 173,0000 fans, was won by Vance Joy’s Riptide.
