Ed Sheeran Covers Foy Vance’s ‘Make It Rain’ For ‘Sons of Anarchy’

FX’s hit drama Sons of Anarchy is wrapping up its seven-season run next week, and to help celebrate the occasion, Ed Sheeran has tossed out a studio version of his bluesy cover of Foy Vance’s “Make It Rain,” which he’s performed regularly on tour. Listen below:

The Irish singer-songwriter’s “Make It Rain” is given a soulful facelift from Sheeran, whose voice punctures the guitar licks over the nearly seven-minute track. The grittily emotional track doesn’t really fit in with the vibe of Sheeran’s sophomore album, x… but hey, that’s why he’s thrown it out as a non-album single!

Speaking of x, Sheeran’s follow-up to his 2011 debut, +, has crossed the million-sales mark in his native U.K., making the singer-songwriter the first artist to achieve that feat within a calendar year since Emeli Sande in 2012. “Don’t,” the second single from x, became Sheeran’s first Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 chart earlier this year.
