Macklemore Denies Tour Costume Was Jewish Stereotype
Macklemore has gotten in some hot water for a costume he wore during a performance on Friday night (May 16) that many have pointed out evokes Jewish stereotypes.
At the opening night of the "Spectacle: The Music Video" exhibition at the EMP Museum in Seattle, Macklemore performed to the hometown crowd while wearing a wig, fake beard and prosthetic nose. The "Thrift Shop" rapper reportedly made no reference to the getup during the performance.
A few days after the incident, Macklemore reacted to the controversy by denying any hidden meaning behind the costume:
A fake witches nose, wig, and beard = random costume. Not my idea of a stereotype of anybody.— Macklemore (@macklemore) May 19, 2014
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' next show is scheduled for May 25 in Las Vegas, and the duo will be performing at various festivals this summer. It's a safe bet that his new costume will not be joining the duo on the road.
