Will.i.am Sets Release Date For Long-Delayed '#Willpower' Album
Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, Miley Cyrus, 2NE1 and many more are featured on the album.
Will.i.am's oft-delayed, Twitter-friendly solo album "#willpower" is finally hitting stores next month. The follow-up to 2007's "Songs About Girls" will be released on Apr. 23 through Interscope Records, and a includes formidable amount of A-list collaborations.
The album's first single, "#thatPOWER" featuring Justin Bieber, hit iTunes on Monday (Mar. 18) after leaking online last week, and a proper music video is coming next month. "#willpower" will also include Will.i.am's current Top 10 hit, "Scream & Shout" with Britney Spears, which holds at No. 8 on this week's Hot 100.
The rest of the album has guests like Lil Wayne, Hit-Boy, Waka Flocka Flame, Diddy, Chris Brown, Skylar Grey, Juicy J, Miley Cyrus, Nicole Scherzinger, Eva Simons (presumably on the previously released single "This Is Love"), 2NE1, Baby Kaely and Will.i.am's Black Eyed Peas brother apl.de.ap. The other Peas, Taboo and Fergie, are not listed among the collaborators, and neither are Jennifer Lopez nor Mick Jagger, who both contributed to the promo single "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)."
"#willpower" was originally scheduled to be released in the fall of 2012, and before that, "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)" was put forth in late 2011. "Scream & Shout," which debuted last November, has sold 2.5 million downloads according to Nielsen SoundScan, and is Will.i.am's biggest hit so far as a lead artist.
The forthcoming album is Will.i.am's first solo effort since the Black Eyed Peas effectively ruled the summer of 2009, as their hits "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" topped the Hot 100 for a combined 26 weeks that year. Will.i.am also scored a No. 1 single as the featured guest on Usher's 2010 smash "OMG."
