Plus, 18 No. 18 hits … for '18.

Welcome back to the Billboard Chart Beat Podcast, where each week co-hosts Gary Trust and Trevor Anderson, from the Billboard charts department, discuss why what's on the charts … is on the charts, while also looking at current chart action in a historical context for even greater insights.

In the first podcast of 2018, we discuss which buzzworthy new single will likely be a bigger hit long-term: Bruno Mars and Cardi B's remixed "Finesse" (originally released over a year ago as a solo song on Mars' album 24K Magic) or Justin Timberlake's "Filthy," the first taste of his new album, Man of the Woods, due Feb. 2.

Helping us predict are return guests Terri Thomas, operations manager and program director of Pop Songs chart reporter KROI Houston, and the station's music director, DJ Riddler.

Thomas' pick? "Finesse," due, in part, to the song's '90s-throwback, new jack swing vibe. "I think millennials really love '90s music. And, it's still loved by the generation that was there. While grown folks are going into their closets pulling out their old '90s wear, you've got the young kids going out to the vintage shops.

"So, that song, it's really fun, and, at a house party, you put it on, everybody's going to relate to it."

Gary and Trevor also welcome in the new year by remembering (and listening to) 18 No. 18 Billboard Hot 100 hits … for '18. Among classics and hidden gems that reached the rank: songs by the Spice Girls, JAY-Z, Britney Spears, P!nk and even Paris Hilton (who, in 2006, made the Hot 100 extra "hot").
