Soul Sisters Podcast: Samantha Gongol of Marian Hill

"It’s really important that we always write from the perspective of a strong female character,” Samantha Gongol of electronic duo Marian Hill tells Soul Sisters, gratefully noting that bandmate Jeremy Lloyd is "a champion of everything feminism."

Many listeners will be familiar with Marian Hill from the Apple AirPods commercial that featured their single "Down"; that spot led to the group becoming the most Shazamed act in the country earlier this year. Gongol tells us what that sudden recognition felt like, how it translated to more radio play, the genesis of their collaboration with Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui, and how she can genuinely and enthusiastically endorse those notorious wireless ear buds that helped put Marian Hill on the map.

"They haven’t fallen out yet!” she says.
