Pop Shop Podcast: Justin Timberlake

Welcome to the new episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, Billboard's weekly audio breakdown of the Billboard charts, hottest music news and year's biggest musical events. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and Billboard.com senior editor Katie Atkinson every Tuesday on the Pop Shop Podcast, which can be streamed on Billboard.com or downloaded in iTunes (click here to listen to the previous Tuesday’s edition of the show on Billboard.com).

This week on the show, the Pop Shop team dives into the nominations for the 89th annual Academy Awards! The musical drama La La Land earned a record-tying 14 nods, including best picture, best actor (Ryan Gosling), best actress (Emma Stone) and two nominations for best original song (“City of Stars” and “Audition”).

Further, Billboard chart superstars Max Martin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Pharrell, Sting and Justin Timberlake all also earned nominations. Previous best original song nominee Pharrell captured a nomination for best picture (as a producer of Hidden Figures -- his first nomination in this category). In the best original song category, Sting garnered his fourth nomination (for “The Empty Chair” from Jim: The James Foley Story) along with composer J. Ralph, while Martin and Timberlake (for “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” from Trolls) and Miranda (for “How Far I’ll Go,” from Moana) each earned their first nomination.

Plus, we of course chat about all things charts, as we discuss the new top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, where Migos’ “Bad and Boujee,” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, returns to the No. 1 slot. Over on the Billboard 200 albums chart, The xx’s I See You debuts at No. 2, while The Weeknd’s Starboy holds at No. 1. What’s the common thread between those two albums and what notable chart distinction did they help achieve? Listen to the show and find out!
