The Alt in Our Stars Podcast featuring: Chairlift

Chairlift’s Moth is a shape-shifting wonder of an alternative pop album, and it’s one of 2016’s best. But that’s not the only reason we had them on the Alt In Our Stars podcast. Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly are inspiring voices with myriad stories to share.

Chairlift Talk New Album, Beyonce & Japanese Pop Stars

Polachek is a virtuoso vocalist who’s given names to the numerous personas her singing voice takes on. Wimberly has recently produced music from the likes of Wet, and is a welcome, open-minded antithesis to the old school, domineering studio presence. The music they make together is surprisingly rooted in new age, and they even offered some expert listening suggestions.

Moth (released on Jan. 22) followed 2012’s Something, another mesmerizing album Chairlift released via Columbia Records. Indie or major label, both members feel a strong sense of purpose transcends almost everything else.

“The people who are very successful… they wake up foaming at the mouth for it,” Polachek says. “It doesn’t happen from a bunch of label people pushing your image. You have to want it real bad.”
