The Alt In Our Stars Podcast: How The Maine Outgrew MySpace and Pop-Punk

The Alt in Our Stars Podcast: The Maine
Dirk Mai

“When I hear Real Friends, I hear The Starting Line,” frontman John O'Callaghan says about his touring partners.

John O'Callaghan and Jared Monaco from The Maine stopped by Billboard's New York office and chatted with Chris Payne for the latest edition of The Alt In Our Stars podcast. Touring in support of their 2015 album American Candy, the frontman and guitarist opened up about a bunch of topics, from their feelings on being called "pop-punk" to forgetting what you learned in high school and chasing your dreams.

The Maine discussed its home state of Arizona, from its baseball team to quirky new age gift shops to the shortcomings of the local music scene. And then there are the tough questions, like whether or not they really like "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down, a track the band has (jokingly) covered live.
