SXSW Unveils First Round of 2016 Performers
The first batch of performers has been announced for the 30th annual South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival (SXSW). And as you’d expect the list features an assortment of internationals, comebacks kids, buzzbands and, at this stage, a dearth of rappers.
Organizers have shared the names of 154 performers who will make their way to the stage next year for Austin, Texas' giant music gathering.
The likes of Mexico’s 3BallMTY, Canada’s emo-electro act Crystal Castles, New Yorkers Dirty Fences, ‘90s indie rockers Joan of Arc, London-based experimental pop outfit Micachu and the Shapes and buzzworthy Portland, Oregon outfit Pure Bathing Culture are confirmed for next year’s edition, which runs March 15-20.
SXSW Music Festival is expected to showcase 2,000 acts ranging from the unsigned to the superstars.
Also, organizers have shared a glimpse at its daytime conference programming. Sessions at the Austin Convention Center include "What It Means to Start a Label in the Digital Age" with Talib Kweli and Jarret Myer (UPROXX); "Radio Re-tuned for the Music Ecosystem" with Phil Guerini (Radio Disney) and "No Basic Pitches: Publicity By The Journalists; You Can’t Pay Bills with Facebook Likes" with Tim Quirk (Freeform).
