Blur to Play Australia's Splendour in the Grass Fest
Blur’s comeback to the live circuit will now include a concert in Australia.
The Britpop legends were today (April 15) announced at the top of the bill for the mid-year Splendour in the Grass festival, which will be held July 24-26 at North Byron Parklands in Byron Bay, an east coast town popular with surfers.
Aussie fans of Blur can now take a big breath after their heroes were a late cancelation from the 2014 Big Day Out lineup. With less than two months before showtime, the group nixed their commitment to the multi-city BDO tour citing “constantly shifting goalposts” with the BDO’s promoters. The BDO didn't return this year.
The original Blur fourpiece of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree hasn't played these shores since 1997. Many had assumed the classic line-up would never return to the land Down Under. As it turns out, those BDO shows would have served as a fine-tuning for a major comeback.
Blur will play songs from their new album, The Magic Whip, which is due to drop April 27. The forthcoming release will be the band's first album as a four-piece in 16 years.
The Splendour date is just the third confirmed Blur concert on the calendar. They’ll also play Isle of Wight Festival on June 13 and London’s Hyde Park on June 20.
Three-day Splendour tickets cost A$365 ($277) plus booking fees, while single day tickets cost A$155 ($117) plus booking fees. Camping ticket are priced at A$120 ($91) plus booking fees. Click here for the full lineup.
