Paramore is winding down its year and a half of touring behind its self-titled comeback album, and delivered one of the best performances of the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Saturday night (Sept. 20). The obvious question remains: when will 2013’s Paramore receive a follow-up? The band told Billboard backstage at iHeartRadio Fest that they’re not sure, and that progress on the next album has been understandably slow.

“We’re in the dreaming-up stage, and figuring out kind of who we want to be next,” says Hayley Williams. “I think we’re getting there. We haven’t written anything that we’ve loved and thought, ‘This is it, this is the new direction,’ or where we want to be, or who we are. But it’ll happen. … I know we’re gonna make a great record when the time is right, but it just hasn’t been right yet.”
