Meghan Trainor Hints at Album, Talks Taylor Swift Cover Backstage at iHeartRadio Music Fest: Watch
“It’s still not real. It’s not real, but it’s amazing.” That’s how Meghan Trainor sees the view from the top. Pop music’s newest star is No. 1 at both ends of the planet right now, and she’s nearly ready to take the next big step -- dropping an album.
Trainor’s “All About The Bass” last week topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the second time, a dizzying height she’s still acclimatizing to. Speaking to Billboard.com backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival, the newcomer explained it was her Mom who brought the good news. Trainor was on a promo trip at the time in Australia, where “Bass” is also at No. 1, when the message came through. “She texted me, my Mom, and I called them and I was bawling. I called L.A. Reid, I was ‘we’re No. 1.’ And he’s like, ‘we did it!’. It’s just unreal. It’s because of the fans, and the video...and the radio stations.”
"Bass" returned to No. 1 on the latest Australian singles chart for its fourth non-consecutive week at the summit. She topped the chart there back in August for three weeks and the song hasn’t dropped lower than No. 2. While on her trip Down Under, she performed "Bass" for the local version of “X Factor and taped a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” for Sydney’s 2DayFM commercial radio station. Trainor admits she’s a “big fan” of Taylor. “I hope that she hears it and likes it because I’m a big fan of the song. I love it,” she says. Though she didn't get the time to perform the cover live on the weekend, Trainor's acoustic cut for Australian radio can be seen below.
Trainor’s debut EP “Title” has just dropped and she's hinted at what to expect for her long-player. “The album is pretty much done. I think I’ve got one more song to wrap up,” she tells Billboard. “It should be out soon. I don’t have a date, but it’s going to be awesome. And I’m saving huge singles for that."
