On her Instagram stories, Karol stated: "For many years we tried to keep our relationship away from social media to take care of it." However, they decided to make their love story public for almost three years because they wanted to be transparent with fans.
"The incredible things that happened to us as people and artists was a blessing and the result of a beautiful love that arrived in our lives when we most needed it," the Colombian artist wrote. "I love you, Emmanuel, my gratitude towards you, your family, and everything we lived, grew, and learned together is infinite."
Karol and Anuel first met in 2018 on the set of their “Culpables” music video. The pair officially announced they were dating on Anuel’s 26th birthday, Nov. 26, 2018. They later sealed the deal with a second collaboration, “Secreto,” out Jan. 15, 2019, in which they documented their relationship in a homemade music video. The couple was also engaged.
The two have collaborated multiple times since, including Anuel’s “China” with Daddy Yankee, Ozuna and J Balvin; “Dices Que Te Vas”; Hear this Music’s “Tu No Amas"; the quarantine-born “Follow”; and, most recently, with Balvin on Karol’s country-tinged urban bop “Location,” which debuted at No. 6 on the Hot Latin Songs chart dated Feb. 27.
Currently, Anuel is making the rounds with Los Dioses, his joint album with Ozuna, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart (dated Feb. 6), marking the first to debut atop the chart in 2021.
Meanwhile, Karol continues celebrating her third studio album KG0516, which arrived at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart (dated April 10), earning the biggest week by a female act in nearly four years.
