Wisin (R) is presented with Lo Nuestro Excellence Award with (L-R) Felix Ortiz of Zion y Lennox, Maluma, and Carlos Vives onstage during Univision's 33rd Edition of Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina at AmericanAirlines Arena on Feb. 18, 2021 in Miami.

Wisin’s status as one of the icons and founding fathers of contemporary reggaeton was recognized at the 2021 Premio Lo Nuestro, where he received the award for excellence.

Wisin, who in addition to being one half of reggaetón music’s most popular duo ever – Wisin & Yandel — and who has been instrumental in launching dozens of new acts, celebrated performing some of his biggest hits with a slew of reggaetón stars.

He kicked things off next to his longtime musical partner, Yandel, along with Jhay Cortez, a protégé. Then Rauw Alejandro stepped in to perform “ Mayor que yo” and was joined by Zion & Lennox for “Vacaciones.”

“Music allows us to bring together many genres,” said Wisin before bringing in Carlos Vives for “Nota de Amor,” and finally, all his guests, plus Lunay, for the grand finale.  Even Maluma jumped onstage – to give Wisin his award.

“For me it’s an honor to say you’re an icon, a legend, we respect you, we admire you. And we want to give you the excellence award,” said Maluma.

Wisin dedicated his award to “God, to my parents. I know you’re watching me. Dad, I’m here because of you. Mom, you’re a cancer survivor. This is for you. Thank you to all the veteran reggaetón artists: Tego, Baby Rasta, Luny Tunes, Daddy Yankee. I want to dedicate this award to Puerto Rico and to millions of people who continue to support the movement.”
