Ana La Serie

Mexican actress and producer Ana de la Reguera is giving her fans an up close and personal look at her journey as an actress in her new coming-of-age comedy series, Ana.

The semi-autobiographical show, which finds a 40-year-old Ana struggling to find new opportunities as an actress, is filled with musical moments, including an Ana-led flash mob in Mexico City mid-episode and other more intimate scenes where music takes center stage.

"[Music] is essential for me, it always reflects my mood or what I'm going through," de la Reguera tells Billboard. "When I was growing up, my mom could tell if I was happy, sad, or in love depending on what I was singing or dancing to in the shower."

Ana's soundtrack includes Francisca Valenzuela's "Tómame," C. Tangana and Rosalía's "Antes de Morirme" and "Amigos con Derechos" by Reik and Maluma. "These are artists that I do listen to and admire, and also the songs were great for the show," she says.

During quarantine, she's turning to artists such as Residente, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles and Jhené Aiko to get her through trying times.

"I'm listening to more shared playlists from friends, especially because now I have the time to listen to music that I may not give a chance on busier days," she explains. "I also listen to this app call Radiooooo. It’s really cool to discover what people are or were listening to on the radio today or 50 years ago, in any country of the world."
