Tommy Torres Reveals His Dream Collaboration

Tommy Torres caught up with Billboard ahead of the 2019 Latin Grammys on Thursday to play "Fishing for Answers," as he revealed his first-ever concert, who his dream collaboration would be and much more.

Pulling questions out of a fishbowl, Torres is first prompted to recall what the first live music show he saw was. “First concert I ever went to is a band called Night Ranger. That's actually letting people know my age,” he says with a laugh.

“It's a rock band, a little bit on the pop side. They're the one that sing ‘Sister Christian.’ I used to be a metal electric guitar player when I first started in music…[they had] two guitar players who were amazing soloists…it was the time of the guitar heroes.”

Asked who he would love to collaborate with one day, the singer says that it would be Shakira. “She's got a certain style, like a vibe,” he explains. “I would love to do something kinda rocking, like her earlier stuff, like more singer-songwriter, that type of stuff with her.”

As for who the biggest musical influences have been in his career, Torres notes that musically, he is heavily inspired by pop/rock from the '80s. But when it comes to lyrics, he is more influenced by singer-songwriters.
