Juan Gabriel's music is still alive and inspiring singers in development such as Carlos Daniels, a Colombian artist dedicated to honoring the memory of el divo de Juarez by interpreting the singer's compositions to other artists.

In 2017, Carlos Daniels released Te Sigo Amando, a live album tribute to the legendary singer. Since then he has been touring nonstop in the U.S., visiting cities such as New York, Orlando, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, Houston, Dallas and Miami, among others.

“I wanted to sing Rocio Durcal songs, but all of them were composed by Juan Gabriel,” Carlos Daniels tells Billboard.

Now, in 2019, he keeps touring and working on new music.  The Juan Gabriel tribute gave Daniels new opportunities and, for that reason, Billboard contacted Carlos Daniels to learn more about his story, how his tribute to Juan Gabriel changed his life, career and more.

How did the idea of doing a tribute to Juan Gabriel come along?

I was exposed to the music of Juan Gabriel through Rocio Durcal and Pandora. Already in Miami, I recorded a live album of Rocio Durcal's songs which were written and produced by Juan Gabriel.

How do you think the tribute has helped you grow your career?

In two years, I have prepared four tours supporting different singles and tribute. In addition, I have had six sold outs in Las Vegas, NV. Also, I have my own record house called 226 Records Company.

What about your own songs?

I am a pop singer, in fact, I have two albums.  Retrospectiva (2013) and Te Sigo Amando (2017).

What’s next?

For the first time in my career, I’ll perform in Durango, Mexico.  The show will be on Saturday, August 31 and I’m very happy.
