Guests were shuttled to a secret location around the regional Mexican star's Long Beach, Calif. hometown under tight security and a logistical labyrinth.

Jenni Rivera's newly discovered music, as previously reported by Billboard, was unveiled during a carefully orchestrated listening session Thursday (June 20), with guests taken to a top-secret location: the Long Beach, Calif., family home where Rivera and her siblings grew up.

Invitees were shuttled to the yet-unknown destination, knowing very few details about what they were about to experience, but it was clear that the field trip included something music-related, as the invite was sent on behalf of Sony Music Latin and Rivera's family. Upon arrival and check-in, those in attendance were escorted to a tent and provided with headphones for a first listen of the new single -- a powerful and poignant ballad that includes sounds of the late singer catching her breath as if trying to control an emotional moment in the recording studio.

A spokesperson for the project did not disclose the song's title, and after guests heard the new track, it was clear that, based on the lyrics, the romantic Spanish-language ballad has the signature Rivera musical bravado that made the late Latin music superstar a beloved figure.

"I am here in front of the mirror, who knows my truth," Rivera sings at the start of the song, and later, the words "aparentemente bien" (apparently well) repeat, likely referring to the title of the song, which is set to debut worldwide July 2 at 8:41 a.m.; the morning debut is a reference to Rivera's favorite time of the day with her family, and the numbers are tied specifically to a social media post on Twitter in connection to her children. Spotify has also launched a pre-reservation campaign for fans but is also not yet naming the song's title.

Like other Rivera music released posthumously, the new single may include several versions, such as mariachi, pop and banda, which is consistent with other releases, but a label spokesperson said that the final versions would be confirmed at a later date. As reported by Billboard in 2018, Rivera's brother Juan discovered an undisclosed number of new songs by his late sister, according to Jenni's daughter, Chiquis Rivera, who spoke publicly on a Mexican television show about the findings.

Rivera died in 2012 in a plane crash at age 43, just as she was about to expand her blossoming career into the English-language market, including plans for a Las Vegas residency, a sitcom based on her life and an album mostly in English. As reported by Billboard recently, an official Rivera biopic is already in the works, and more musical projects are expected to be announced as siblings Rosie Rivera and Juan release these projects the way their sister had wanted.

Chiquis has already recorded a song in duet form after her mother's death: "Quisieran Tener Mi Lugar" (You Wish You Had My Place) was included in her early 2018 release of the Entre Botellas album.

In recent days, Rivera's official Instagram account has featured fans speaking about how they first discovered their idol's music as part of the new single/birthday campaign to celebrate the singer, known as much for her inspiring music as her sassy personality, which continually encouraged and empowered women to rise above their struggles.

"She's helped me go through a couple of years of real darkness," said one female fan, who is part of the Instagram campaign to remember Rivera, as the background music hints at the upcoming single.

The press event on Thursday was first announced a handful of days ago by Sony Music Latin and the Rivera family with a "save the date" and an image of the singer's smoky eyes looking directly forward. Few details were given, but guests were told the evening was going to be special and memorable.
