Latin Artist on the Rise: How 'Pa Mi (Remix)' Put Puerto Rican Artist Dalex On the Map

Luis Alejandro Marquez

Dalex dropped his single “Pa Mi” featuring Rafa Pabon in October 2018. He then kicked off 2019 with the remix, featuring some of the hottest artists of the new urban generation.

The remix, which features a wave of new-school talents, including Sech, Cazzu, Feid, Lenny Tavarez, Khea, and its original collaborator, Rafa Pabon, peaked at No. 35 on the Hot Latin Songs on the May 5-dated chart, becoming Dalex’s first-ever Billboard hit.

“When we did the original song, we liked it a lot and thought that it could become a big hit. We did the remix to have more content on the street but we didn’t think it would have the feedback it has now,” Dalex tells Billboard. “It was a total surprise but I’m happy because this is what we work for.”

Dalex, born Pedro David Daleccio Torres in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but raised in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, kicked off his music career in 2013 as part of the duo Jayma & Dalex. After a three-year run, the boys parted ways on good terms. In 2016, Dalex kicked off his solo career under the wings of record label Rich Music and released his debut album Climaxxx on May 10. The set features collaborations with Nicky Jam, Justin Quiles and many more.

On the celebration streak of “Pa Mi,” Dalex manifests that 2019 will be a very good year for his career.
