On Friday, American singer Akon released his latest song “Get Money” with one of the most in-demand Latin trap singers, Anuel AA. How did the collab come to be? Thanks to producers Maffio and DJ Luian, who connected them.

This is not Akon’s first Latin collaboration, however. Back in 2009, the rapper joined forces with bachata group Aventura and urban duo Wisin y Yandel for the song “All Up to You.”

"The Latin culture, it's amazing," Akon tells Billboard. "Growing up in New Jersey surrounded by this culture. I love this culture, and ever since the beginning of my career I’ve been wanting to always collaborate."

Akon is also hoping to collaborate with Maluma and Juan Luis Guerra.

“Get Money” is a trap song that combines English and Spanish lyrics. “The story it’s to inspire the youth, not hating on each other,” says Akon. “Don’t worry about fighting or causing trouble; focus on work. Focus on getting money and working for it. Stop all the violence and just get money.”
