After testing the waters in the cumbia genre when he composed “El Ritmo de mi Corazón” a couple of years ago, Peruvian pop crooner Gian Marco dropped a new version on Friday (May 3), premiering exclusively on Billboard.

The single, which has become a cumbia anthem not only in Peru but also Latin America, was originally composed by Gian for Grupo 5. Now, he joins frontman Christian Yaipen for a fresh take in collaboration with Peruvian producer and musician Tony Succar. Melodies in the new single fuse cumbia, salsa, with hints of Andean folk music.

“I had never explored the world of cumbia and it was an incredible experience,” Gian said in a press statement. “This time I decided to record it with them and also invite Tony Succar to this new version. It is a pleasure to be able to share with them, to have recorded such a beautiful video and to deliver a little more of my country to the world through a song,” he elaborated.

The music video, directed by Jorge Carmona, highlights many beautiful and emblematic landmarks in northern Peru, such as Puerto Etén, Pimentel beach and the archaeological center of Túcume in Lambayeque.
