Spanish-Catalan singer Bad Gyal has signed a worldwide exclusive recording deal with Interscope Records and Aftercluv, the two labels announced Tuesday (April 30).
Bad Gyal, born Alba Farelo, rose to prominence after her cover of Rihanna's "Work" went viral in 2016. Farelo's rendition, titled "Pai," adapted the lyrics in a blend of Catalan, Spanish and English. Since then, the breakout artist has played world tours, sold out Spain's largest venues and dropped hit tracks like "Mercadona" and "Fiebre" that have amassed millions of streams and YouTube views.
“Bad Gyal has already made massive inroads in the underground music scene in Spain, and we can’t wait to see how she connects here in the U.S.,” says Sam Riback, head of A&R for Interscope Geffen A&M, in a statement. “When Matt Morris on my team first introduced me to Bad Gyal’s music I knew she was a force of nature, with a sound that really defies categorization. She just pulls from so many different genres. We’re really excited to partner with Aftercluv to bring her music to scale globally.”
