Sebastian Yatra arrives at the Enrique Santos Show at the I Heart Latino Studio on Jan. 17, 2018 in Miami.

Although in recent years ballads and pop music have been replaced by the urban genre, Sebastian Yatra knows that at any moment they will come back. And, for that reason, the Colombian singer has bet his instincts and released Fantasia -- a different, romantic pop album.

"I started my career as a balladeer," Yatra tells Billboard. "I listened to Luis Fonsi, Reik, Alex Ubago and Michael Bublé. I'm very grateful for all the urban things I've done but I did not want to lose my essence."

The 12 songs included in the set represent a story lived by the 24-year-old singer. "There's something we all have in common -- love. So if I write the songs that are born from my soul about most difficult moments or the happiest, I know that I can connect with people."

In a conversation with Billboard, Sebastián Yatra chose seven key tracks from his new album Fantasia (out now) and detailed each song.

Cristina is my favorite song. It is super personal and sincere. Its lyrics are very specific. I, like many artists and people who are very dedicated to their career, we don’t have much time. Then, in a relationship, if you don’t have time for the other person then you don’t have much to give and it won’t grow or reach the next level.

"Falta Amor " (Missing Love)

I write a lot about things that happen around me. There is a couple, close to me, who was doing well and, suddenly, she left. I wrote that song like I was him. It is a song that is the favorite of many.

"Un Año" with Reik (One Year)

I am very happy with this song. It is so simple that has become an anthem. It's a song that people know and identify with because it talks about the most powerful feeling in the world [love] and it's very easy to learn.

It's the little gem of the album. It's a song that I wrote with Dandee (Alejandro Rengifo) and Andres Torres. At that time Dandee had a baby named Elena, today she is four months old, and we wrote the song for her, from a father to his daughter.

"Fantasia" (Fantasy)

In addition to be the name of the album, the song is in the top 3 of the best compositions of each one of us [Sebastian Yatra, Dandee and Andres Torres]. It's a special song, anyone who listens to it starts crying.

"En Guerra" with Camilo (In War)

Each song is equally important. And "En Guerra" carries the most powerful message of the album. It talks about the internal struggle of a human being and bullying. This video will be released on May 2, the international day of bullying.

"Nunca Nos Preparamos Para Tanto Amor" (We Are Never Prepare For So Much Love)

I wrote it in my house, in Bogotá, Colombia. It is a song that comes from the soul. I was with my guitarist and he started talking about his ex-girlfriend and I said "let's write a song about her." And it's not only pop, it's a rock n’ roll song and I can’t wait until I sing it live.
