Spain's Flamenco Festival Takes U.S. Tour
New York, Miami, Chicago and Washington, D.C. are stops on the definitive flamenco showcase’s annual tour.
Sara Baras, the barrier-busting, iconoclastic flamenco dancer known for performing a style of dance (farruca) that was formerly “for men only” will show her strength on International Women’s Day at New York’s City Center.
Baras and her always-innovative company are headlining the 2019 Flamenco Festival, a Spanish showcase that takes an annual tour in the States. Pianist Chano Dominguez, guitarists Miguel Angel Cortñes and Antonio Rey, and vocalists Mara Rey, Ismael Fernández (who has performed with both Madonna and Ricky Martin) and Israel Fernández are among the other artists on the bill for the New York festival, which runs from March 7-10 at various venues.
A program of some of the same established and emerging flamenco artists will also be offered in Miami, Chicago and Washington D.C.
Sara Baras will be at New York's City Center March 7-9, and will be in Miami for five performances at the Adrienne Arsht Center from March 13-17.
