De La Ghetto Talks Premio Lo Nuestro Nomination, Favorite Daddy Yankee Memory: Watch

De La Ghetto sat down with Billboard during the Premio Lo Nuestro rehearsals to talk all about his nomination and participation in Daddy Yankee’s tribute, and to answer rapid-fire questions.

The Puerto Rican singer, who’s nominated for video of the year for his collaboration in Sofia Reyes’ “1, 2, 3” alongside Jason Derulo, reveals that he was working on his second album in the studio when he got the news. “That’s a good nomination because we’re going against top players in the genre,” he says. “I hope we can win and if we don’t, to me we already won for being here.”

In addition to his nod, De La Ghetto will be taking the stage during Daddy Yankee’s tribute, opening the set. “It’s going to be off the chain,” he admits, without giving too many details.

The urban star also shares his best memory with Yankee, recalling when they met for the first time in 2006. “We were doing the ‘Gangster Zone' remix. Everyone was in the studio working on their verse and all of a sudden, when I had to do my verse, in that same moment, Yankee got to the studio. I was nervous as hell,” he recalls, adding that their friendship was born that day.
