Regional Mexican Premios de la Radio Awards Nominations Announced: Exclusive
Christian Nodal leads nominees for the EstrellaTV awards, which will be held in Mexico for the first time.
U.S. Spanish-language network EstrellaTV has announced the nominees for its Premios de la Radio awards show, to be broadcast on the network and live-streamed via its website on Nov. 8.
Christian Nodal leads the nominations with five nods, followed by Alfredo Olivas (4), El Fantasma (4) and Virlán García (4). Regional Mexican superstars Julión Álvarez, Banda MS and Gerardo Ortiz nabbed three nominations each.
The awards show, now in its 19th year, will be held at Auditorio Telmex in Guadalajara, Mexico. The show will be produced in Mexico for the first time “as a sign of solidarity with those recording artists that have been denied visas to work in the United States,” according to a statement from the network.
“By taking its music awards show to Mexico, the network is also standing firm with Latino immigrants who have been deported and whose families have been separated at the border,” the announcement said.
EstrellaTV bills the Premios de la Radio as the only music awards show of its kind in the United States, whose purpose is to recognize “the best in Regional Mexican music.” The awards were conceived by Los Angeles radio personality Pepe Garza.
Online voting for fans is now open on the awards website.
