Fresh off of his successful visit to China, where fans taught him how to sing “Despacito” in Chinese, Daddy Yankee will make his way to Hollywood next month for a special prize at the Latin American Music Awards.

Not only is the Puerto Rican singer nominated for six awards at this year’s ceremony but he will also be honored with the special Icon Award, Billboard can exclusively reveal.

Telemundo announced the news today (Oct. 6). According to an official statement, the "recipient of the Latin AMA Icon Award interprets our life in his songs, forms an important part of Latin America’s history and is considered a musical hero. His name exceeds all generations; his audience admires him and other artists are inspired daily by his brilliance.”

In addition to receiving the Icon Award and chasing six wins, Yankee will perform at the 2018 Latin AMAs, joining already announced performers such as CNCO, Pitbull, and Cardi B.

Produced by Telemundo and Somos Productions, the 2018 Latin AMAs will broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood at 8 p.m. ET on Oct. 25 via Telemundo, with a simulcast on Spanish-language entertainment cable network Universo.

Fans in the United States and Puerto Rico have until 3 p.m. ET on Oct. 10 to vote online for their favorite artists here.
