Gerardo Ortiz is owning up to his mistakes in his single “Egoista,” a song that earned him the No. 1 spot on the Regional Mexican Songs airplay chart.

The Mexican-American singer leads Regional Mexican Songs, with the May single bumping 2-1 on the Sept. 22-dated chart. This is Ortiz’s ninth chart leader. In the music video, which currently has more than 20 million views on YouTube, we see Ortiz singing his heart out under a gloomy, snowy night and admitting he was a selfish boyfriend.

Find out what he’s singing about in the “Egoista” lyric translation below:

For not knowing how to take advantage of time

That's why I watched you leave, and I lost you

For not kissing you when I could

Now my clouds are gray

And the sun does not want to leave

For not knowing how to take care of every moment

And for the lack of attention, your heart

One day old you until never

Let's put a stop to this love

And it erased me forever

For the record, I do not blame anyone

Well I know very well that it was my mistake

I should have hugged you slowly and tighter

Said I love you, with a kiss on your forehead

But I was selfish and spent my time losing you

I should have taken your hand, presume you were mine

Or sing songs to you and steal your smiles

But I was selfish and now this wound hurts

I should have known that I was losing, I should have known that it hurt

I should have hugged you slowly and tighter

Said I love you, with a kiss on your forehead

But I was selfish and spent my time losing you

I should have taken your hand, presume you were mine

Or sing songs to you and steal your smiles

But I was selfish and now this wound hurts

I should have known that I was losing, I should have known that it hurt
