Alejandro Sanz fans can now enjoy a never-before-seen side to him thanks to his documentary on Netflix called Sanz: Lo Que Fue es lo Que Soy (What I Was Is Who I Am).

Capturing his life journey from his childhood to achieving fame, the nearly two-hour film shows rare videos of Sanz and friends when they were in a rock band to becoming one of Latin music’s biggest stars while remaining “a normal person.”

The documentary is not only a wonderful treat for fans who have followed the Spanish singer’s career since the '90s, but also for emerging artists who dream of one day becoming the next big star.

Here are seven of the best life lessons Sanz’s documentary taught us, as told by Sanz himself.

1. “When you see success face-to-face, it’s overwhelming. It’s like a huge monster, and you never know how to react. Luckily, I have people around me who I’ve always been able to lean on.”

2. “To fill a stadium, first you need to empty a small room and stay there on your own. In that solitude is how magic is created.”

3. “I wasn’t scared of anything, I came from singing on the sidewalks of my hood.”

4. “I had to get used to success and fame and everyone having an opinion about you. You have to be open but at the same time have this emotional shield up.”

5. “The best thing to do is what I’ve down my entire career -- simply write for myself. When you write for yourself, everyone gets it.”

6. “If I don’t take risks, then when will I?”

7. “I would daydream a lot because that’s the only way to dream.”
