Calibre 50 is making lovers swoon with their recent single “Mi Sorpresa Fuiste Tu.” Not only did the video amass over 34 million views on YouTube, but it topped the Regional Airplay chart, jumping to No. 1 on the Sept. 1 chart.

But another chart-topping hit is not the only reason the Mexican group is celebrating.

Frontman Eden Muñoz was recently named SESAC Latina Songwriter of the Year for writing songs for bands such as Banda Carnaval, Julion Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda, Banda Sinaloense MS and others, in addition to Calibre 50.

The director of SESAC Latina, Celeste Zendejas, surprised Muñoz with the award during Calibre 50’s first-ever performance at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico, which was sold-out on Sept. 1.

As a songwriter, the 27-year-old artist is the mastermind behind many songs that reached No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Chart, including “Siempre Te Voy a Querer” (Calibre 50), “Ella Es Mi Mujer” (Banda Carnaval), and “Tengo Que Colgar” (Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga).
