J Alvarez's 'La Fama Que Camina' Album Certified Gold by RIAA
With hits such as "Esa Boquita" and "De La Mía Personal,” J Alvarez has done nothing but make us sing and dance in 2018. So it makes sense that his album La Fama Que Camina (The Fame That Walks) was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in their Latin Awards Program last month, reflecting 30,000 album units earned in the U.S.
"I am extremely honored by this recognition, and accomplishing this as an independent label is not an easy task, but not impossible,“ Alvarez said in a statement. “My team has worked united and I thank each and every person that has made this possible. Thank you, RIAA for this incredible news that gives me life."
One equivalent album unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to one album sale, 10 tracks sold from an album, or 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from an album. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on Feb. 1, 2016, growing from a pure album sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams.
The Puerto Rican urban singer and composer continued his gold celebration on Instagram. “Just act and let your success make the noise,” he wrote in his caption.
In hype of the good news, he also promised fans new music on the way. Check out his posts below:

Alvarez’s 18-track production -- released on March 30 -- is one of just 13 out of 75,000 albums released so far in 2018 that have been certified gold or platinum. Other artists certified by RIAA include Drake, Cardi B, Camila Cabello, and Justin Timberlake.
