Why 2018 Is Natti Natasha's Year
Natti Natasha has come a long way since we first heard her in Don Omar’s 2012 hit “Dutty Love.” In the course of six years, her hard work has paid off, even dubbing her the "Most-Watched Spanish-Speaking Female Urban Artist" on YouTube in 2017, an accolade she nabbed thanks to her music video “Criminal” featuring Ozuna that currently has over 1 billion views.
But she's much more than just the "Most-Watched Urban Woman" on YouTube. She's unstoppable.
Following her successful song with “El Negrito de Ojos Claro,” the Dominican songstress kicked off 2018 with another sexy collaboration: “Amantes de una Noche” featuring Bad Bunny. Then, she dropped “Tonta,” surprising everyone with a RKM & Ken-Y comeback on the record after a four-year hiatus.
By this time, in February, everyone wanted to record with the urban artist because let’s face it: she’s got the voice, she’s got the moves, and she’s got the flow.
This includes Becky G, who in April released her sensual track “Sin Pijama” featuring Natti. The song peaked at No. 1 on the Latin Rhythm Digital Song Sales chart dated May 5.
"Sin Pijama" also made the rounds in the top 10 of the Latin Digital Song Sales chart (peaking at No. 5, chart dated May 5), Hot Latin Songs (peaking at No. 6, chart dated July 7), Latin Pop Airplay (peaking at No. 8, chart dated July 7), Latin Airplay (peaking at No. 6, chart dated July 21), and Latin Rhythm Airplay (peaking at No. 5, chart dated July 21).
That same month, she jumped on board Daddy Yankee’s “Dura” remix with Becky G and Bad Bunny, exclusively premiering the song at the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
Come June, the Caribbean singer fuses her seductive voice with Thalía’s pop vocals in “No Me Acuerdo,” an empowering song with unapologetic lyrics that nabbed both singers a Top 10 on the Latin Pop Digital Song Sales (peaked at No. 6, chart dated June 16) and Latin Rhythm Digital Song Sales (peaked at No. 5, chart dated June 16).
At the ending of the month, she surprised her more than 5.5 million followers on Instagram with the release of “Quien Sabe,” a bachata she considered as challenging because it’s the "color of her country" as she said on Instagram.
The song not only has over 110 million video views on YouTube but also became the first bachata to ever enter Spotify’s ¡Viva Latino! playlist, where she’s currently making history as the first Dominican woman on the cover.
All of these back-to-back successes are in addition to her new collaboration with Silvestre Dangond in “Justicia,” touring the world, keeping it real on Instagram and staying humble, further proving that 2018 -- although not even over -- is Natti Natasha’s year.
