Jennifer Lopez Toasts New Latin Airplay No. 1 & Applauds #MeToo Movement at Guess Launch Party

Jennifer Lopez walked into the Guess headquarters in downtown Los Angeles looking radiant in a power blue dress as she officially launched her new worldwide campaign with the iconic brand.

She walked the red carpet, greeting fans and friends, and her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez, was by her side all night. It was also a night to celebrate a major music milestone on the Billboard charts: "Amor, Amor, Amor," the second single from her upcoming Spanish-language album, hit No. 1 on Latin Airplay this week.

"I work hard at everything I do, but when a record goes to No. 1, it blows me away," Lopez told Billboard during Wednesday night's launch party. "It blows me away. I'm on cloud nine. I really can't believe it after 20-something years of still doing this."

Lopez, who has charted 19 times on Latin Airplay and has had 6 No. 1s on the chart as well, briefly remembered her Fly Girl years and recalled how much music has played a key role in the way her career unfolded, from her dancing days to starring in the film Selena.

"At the end of the day, music is my first love," Lopez said. "I started as a dancer, so you have to love music to dance. For me, it's a dream come true every single time I put out a record and people like it."

The swanky Guess party was attended by many, from Paris Hilton to real estate developer Mohamed Hadid, whose daughter Gigi Hadid has been participating in Guess campaigns for years. Anticipation was building moments before Lopez arrived, as staff had a meeting about the night's event.

Asked about the #MeToo movement, Lopez told Billboard that she supports all women coming forward to tell their stories and called this time in history "a beautiful time for women." "We are really finding our voices," Lopez said. "We are really coming out of the shadows and saying how we feel. [It's about] knowing our worth and our value and making the opposite sex aware of our worth and our value."

Lopez added that this is also the time for women all over to continue speaking up and being supported as a way to also empower young women. "It's a groundbreaking thing that's going on in the world right now, so I'm super excited to be a part of this time. Of course, I always support women speaking up. I'm super excited about the time we are living in right now -- especially for my daughter."

One of those women speaking up is model Kate Upton, who on Wednesday accused Guess creative director Paul Marciano of sexual and emotional harassment in an Instagram post. During Wednesday's Guess event, Billboard asked several representatives for the clothing brand if there was an official statement regarding Upton's allegations on behalf of anyone for Guess or Marciano himself, but that request was declined.

On Thursday (Feb. 1), Lopez released this statement to Billboard addressing the Marciano accusations: “My position on these issues is well known, as I have been very vocal about them. I do not condone any acts of sexual harassment, violation, or misconduct. Any accusations should be fully and thoroughly investigated. I will continue to support our rights as women.”

At the event, Marciano addressed his guests and spoke at length about asking Lopez to sign on to the campaign that will be seen around the world. It took him several months to finally reach Lopez in an attempt to ask her to consider becoming the face of Guess. "[The campaign] will be seen in at least 45 countries," Marciano said, as his guests cheered him on. "Jennifer trusted me. She trusted me with the pictures ... that I could do great pictures. The trust was there. It was destiny. It was not an accident. I want to make pictures that every single day you will go back to these pictures one day and show your children."

Lopez, holding hands with Rodriguez, toured the Guess facility later in the evening, which included large images of her campaign throughout. A live DJ played music as guests mingled, ate appetizers and drank cosmopolitans and margaritas.

According to Lopez's manager Benny Medina, who was also present at the Guess event, the new album is likely to be released in September, he told Billboard.
