Ahead of the premiere of Telemundo's José José, el Principe de la Canción -- a bio-musical that will give fans a intimate look at the private life of Mexican music icon José José -- principal performer Alejandro de la Madrid talks about what viewers can expect to experience when they tune in on Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. ET. 

In the exclusive clip below, Madrid describes the upcoming series as "compassionate, passionate and challenging," suggesting fans will get to see the legacy of the 69-year-old luminary unfold in such a way that we'll learn the many triumphs and losses, highs and lows that made him the icon he is today.

On March 24, 2017, José José confirmed he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a "new adventure" he was ready to undertake. He's had 20 Hot Latin Songs hits: four reached No. 1, while 15 of his albums landed on the Top Latin Albums chart. According to Nielsen Music, he has sold 1.87 million albums in the U.S.
