The president of Panama has declared Wednesday a national holiday after the country’s soccer team qualified for the World Cup for the first time. A country-wide street party broke out in Panama last night (Oct . 10) after the team beat Costa Rica 2-1.

“Thank you team,” President Juan Carlos Varela said on Twitter. “Today you made history realizing the dream of more than 4 million Panamanians.”
