Luis Fonsi, Chayanne, Ricky Martin & Nicky Jam Join Forces to Personally Help Puerto Rico
Two weeks after Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico remains devastated, and is still waiting for sufficient aid to arrive. That's why Luis Fonsi, Chayanne, Ricky Martin and Nicky Jam have joined forces to travel today to Puerto Rico to personally help their people in these difficult times.
On Monday morning (Oct. 2), the superstars departed from Fort Lauderdale, FL and surprised their fans with the news, posting photos and videos through social media while they were on the plane on the way to the island.
Although they have only recently joined forces, Fonsi, Jam, Martin and Chayanne have been individually asking for help over the past weeks. Luis Fonsi, for example, just opened an aid fund to rebuild "La Perla" neighborhood, the place where the most viewed YouTube video of all time, for his and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," was filmed. Martin opened a general catastrophe fund -- which already exceeds 1.7 million dollars -- that he will use to buy essential items, as he said on the Ellen show last week.
Chayanne joined the American Red Cross to help Mexico and Puerto Rico, and Nicky Jam has taken basic materials directly to the island.
During the weekend, Fonsi's "Despacito" co-star Daddy Yankee also arrived on the island, and personally brought food to the cities of Toa Baja, Morovis and Orocovis, along with Feeding America. Also, René Pérez Joglar (known as Residente) announced that he joined the organization Techo, to help rebuild homes on the island.
