Residents of San Juan, Puerto Rico, deal with damages to their homes on Sept. 20, 2017, as Hurricane Maria batters the island.

The island has been declared in a state of emergency with a curfew in place.

On Wednesday morning (Sep. 20), Hurricane Maria made its entry through southern Puerto Rico and crossed to the north as category 4 hurricane with winds of up to 175 mph. Governor Ricardo Rossello has declared the island in a state of emergency and extended the curfew until 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Latin superstars have taken social media networks to share from images of the damages to prayers and their concerns for families and friends.

Chart-topper Luis Fonsi is among them, posting what translates to, “Horrible what is going through the island right now. It is very sad to read messages from my family.”
