ASCAP Signs Maluma
After signing a worldwide publishing deal with Sony/ATV, Colombian star Maluma announced Monday (July 24) he has signed with ASCAP for the representation of his public performances.
“Maluma has a powerful and deep connection with his audience,” said Gabriela González, ASCAP vice president, mMembership, U.S. Latin and Latin America, in a press release. “He has had an incredible start to his career, and we are excited to support him as he continues to grow as a songwriter and an artist.”
As a songwriter, Maluma has had 13 songs on the Billboard charts, including “Chantaje” and “Felices” as well as “Borro Cassette” and the controversial “Cuatro Babys.” He currently has 10 million subscribers to his YouTube channel and an impressive six videos on YouTube’s global music chart. That’s more than any other artist, mainstream or Latin, on the chart. Maluma is also the youngest artist to simultaneously hold both the No. 1 and 2 spots on Billboard's Latin Airplay chart (with "Sin Contrato" and "Chantaje”) and only the sixth act to ever achieve the feat.
