5 Things To Know About Despacito's Zuleyka Rivera
After leading the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the 10th week in a row and making music history by being the most streamed song ever, "Despacito" has officially taken over. While we're now fully aware of what the spicy Despacito lyrics mean, we don't know a whole lot about the woman featured in the viral music video: Zuleyka Rivera.
Below are 5 things you should know about Rivera.
1. Zuleyka Rivera is a winning beauty queen
Being featured in the "Despacito" music video is not the first time Rivera has known international fame. At the age of 18, she gave Puerto Rico a big triumph and won the coveted title of Miss Universe 2006.
2. Modeling was her first passion
Rivera began her professional modeling career at the age of 14, walking the international catwalks for big name Latin designers and signing an incredibly lucrative CoverGirl deal in her early 20s.
3. Competed on a dancing TV show
Rivera participated in Univision's Mira Quien Baila back in 2013. Even though she didn't win, the dance lessons helped her to shine in "Despacito."
4. She's also a highly successful TV and movie actor
After completing her commitment as Miss Universe, Zuleyka Rivera studied acting in New York. Eventually, she snagged parts on a whole slew of Televisa soap operas in Mexico, including playing the part of the main villain Viviana “Vivi” Robles de Lujan in 2014's Cosita Linda. Currently, she's based in Miami where she participates as special guest/host on Latin shows such as Telemundo’s Un Nuevo Dia and Univision’s Despierta America.
5. She owns her own clothing collection and multiple fragrance lines, while being a single mother
Rivera founded and owns a teen-centric clothing line sold exclusively at Kress stores in Puerto Rico, and then leveraged that opportunity to launch three successful fragrance lines: Zuleyka, Zuleyka 2010 and the Karisma. Recently, she even launched a swimsuit collection called "ZK". She's done all of this while being a loving single mother to 5-year-old Sebastián José Barea.
