With more than 980 million views, the original version of Fonsi's "Despacito," featuring reggaetón superstar Daddy Yankee, continues to rule YouTube's Global Music Top 100 chart, followed by Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You."
On Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart, "Despacito" is currently No. 1 and has been for 11 straight weeks, also peaking at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 (it now sits at No. 48).
In a previous interview, the Puerto Rican singer/songwriter said the feel-good track "celebrates our Latin culture and who we are; movement, dancing and rhythm are engraved in my bones."
He added: "The genre I listen to the most is salsa, so people look at me and see this guy who’s done mostly romantic ballads, but there’s always been this other side. It captures the best of both worlds, and I think that’s helped the success of the song."
Luis Fonsi will perform at the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Awards on April 27 at The Watsco Center in Miami. For more coverage on the Billboard Latin Music Awards, go to PremiosBillboard.com.
