Rene Perez Joglar performs at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Nov. 19, 2014 in Las Vegas.

2017 Billboard Latin Music Conference panelist Residente not only performed at this year's South by Southwest festival, he also premiered his new self-titled documentary, where he traces his DNA to make new music, and was part of the Billboard/Vevo Digital Revolution Panel where he talked about the future of music.

"We need more art in music," the Calle 13 alum tells Billboard following the revolution panel. "People forget about art, but that's the main thing in music."

Residente, who will drop his first album as a solo artist on Friday, will take center stage at the Iconic Singer/Songwriter Q&A during the annual Billboard Latin Music Conference. His Q&A is set to take place April 26.

Check out our interview with the "Somos anormales" singer at SXSW below, where he talks about traveling to 10 different countries to record with "unknown artists."
