Telemundo's bio-musical series based on the life of the late Jenni Rivera officially announced the cast attached to the project on Tuesday (March 13).

Titled Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio, the series written by Rossana Negrin will star Angélica Celaya, who will play adult Rivera (three actresses will play the singer at different points in her life), Gabriel Porras as her father Don Pedro Rivera and Marcela Alcaraz as Chiquis.

The Rivera family-authorized series is inspired by Rivera's autobiography Unbreakable and testimonies from her family.

"We feel blessed to be working with Telemundo on this story honoring the life of my sister, Jenni," Rosie Rivera, president of Jenni Rivera Enterprises, said in a statement. "Our partnership with the network has allowed us to be involved in every aspect of the series and to contribute details and recommendations that only we, her family could."

Luis Silberwasser, President of Telemundo, added: "We are very proud to produce and develop this series about Jenni Rivera, showcasing some of the important milestones in her life. We are certain it will serve as a source of inspiration, optimism, success and empowerment for Hispanic audiences in this country ... In addition to a stellar cast, the stories and experiences shared by Rivera’s own family were crucial to making this series."

Other actors involved in the series include Rosalinda Rodríguez, Stephanie Arcila, Samadhi Zendejas and Uriel del Toro. No air date has been set yet for Mariposa de Barrio
