Over one million fans voted for their favorite Brazilian singer in our Carnival-themed poll. Find out who took the crown here.

Fans have voted Ivete Sangalo as Billboard’s Carnival Queen. Over one million people participated in our “Who Is Your Favorite Carnival Queen?” poll, posted Feb. 24 in celebration of Brazil’s carnival.

In the hotly contested online competition, Sangalo, the beloved Brazilian singer whose name is synonymous with carnival, scored 483,812 votes. Claudia Leitte, the pop star who gained worldwide recognition when she performed at the 2014 World Cup, came in close behind with 473,404.

Daniela Mercury and Alinne Rosa were also in the running, scoring 36,517 and 6,260 votes, respectively.

The four artists were among the performers at this year's celebration in Salvador de Bahia, which ended yesterday (March 1).

Rio Olympics opening ceremony performer Anitta and Brazilian kids’ music star Xuxa were among the candidates that 3,898 people who voted “other” wrote in. They also suggested some men, including Asa de Águia frontman Durval Lélys and Salvadoran singer Leo Santana.
