Dominican Radio DJ and Producer Murdered During Facebook Live Broadcast

A radio DJ and his producer were shot dead in a shopping mall studio in the Dominican Republic during a Facebook Live broadcast.

Luis Manuel Medina and producer Leo Martinez, who also directed radio station 103.5 HICC, were killed Tuesday (Feb. 14) in San Pedro de Macoris,a small city just east of the capital Santo Domingo, according to the Associated Press and newspaper reports.

Medina was reading the news during his program Milenio Caliente and was killed on air in a glass-walled studio as his broadcast streamed on Facebook Live. The producer and station director was shot in an adjacent office, where he also died. A secretary was also shot and injured but survived.

Three men have been detained.

In addition to his work as a radio host, Medina was also the announcer for the Estrellas Orientales baseball team.
