It’s fitting that Romeo Santos, of all people, would release a new video on Valentine Day’s eve. “Héroe favorito” (Favorite Hero),  Santos’ first single from his upcoming new studio album, his first since 2014, is full of love, longing and, as its title indicates, superheroes – all set to a medium tempo bachata beat with tinges of jazz.

In the video to “Héroe favorito” (below), Santos plays a limo driver in love with the girl he chauffeurs around in a Rolls Royce, and fantasizes about being a superhero to treat her right. "I always had this fascination with superheroes," Santos told Billboard. "Who didn't love Hulk and Spider-Man?"

It didn’t stop there. Santos also teamed up with Marvel Custom, the comic giant's in-house content and marketing agency, to design a superhero version of himself, which, yes, makes an appearance in the video.

But don’t expect anything as crass or obvious as Santos cavorting in costume. Instead, the superhero references are sly winks, designed to make you guess what move will match the references in the lyrics.

Here are five superheroes Santos channels in the video to “Héroe.”

1. Superman: “If I were Superman I’d show you the universe,” croons Santos before taking the girl in his arms and flying up, up, up with her.

2. Hulk: “I’d like to be hulk to protect you,” sings our hero, and in one sweep he stops and lifts a car about to hit our damsel in distress. Hulk’s gallantry doesn’t stop there. When the obnoxious boyfriend gets menacing, he “kicks” him and sends him flying. Literally. Cool trivia: “Héroe favorito”  started with the Hulk. “I just had a little bit of the hook — the Hulk line — and it developed from there,” Romeo told Billboard.

3. Flash Gordon: Girl in his arms, Flash Santos zips around the city, leaving a trail of light in his wake.

4. Spiderman: “If I were Spiderman, I’d scale up 100 feet to your balcony,” declares Santos. And he does, twice. But the second’s the charm, bringing the video to an end with Santos replaying the memorable upside down kiss Spiderman gives to his girlfriend as he hangs upside down from a wall.
