Ken-Y arrives at the Mega Mezcla 2016 at Prudential Center on April 22, 2016 in Newark, N.J. Jersey.

It's now been a couple of weeks since Kenny Vazquez, best known as Ken-Y, was arrested in Thailand by airport security officials for allegedly carrying a bullet in his luggage.

After being detained and sent to prison on Jan. 22, the Puerto Rican urban singer was released by authorities but hasn't been able to leave the country since his passport was confiscated and is waiting for Thailand officials to finish the ongoing investigation.

The singer was on vacation with his girlfriend, who stayed supporting him at the airport and is now back home in Puerto Rico.

In an exclusive interview with Billboard, Ken-Y talks about the vacation turned nightmare -- although for legal reasons he couldn’t reveal details of his case or the accusations -- and how it's been spending time in a country where he can't speak the language. "It's a beautiful country and people have treated me nicely. Almost every day I go eat soup to the same place near the building I'm staying," he says. "But, I really want to get out of this situation and go home to my family."

You were traveling with your girlfriend, what happened to her during the incident?

My girlfriend stayed with me while I was in the cell at the airport.  It was horrible seeing her sleeping very uncomfortable in front of my cell. But the next day I paid a bail. She spent two days with me while we made arrangements for her to return to Puerto Rico.

What was going through your mind at that moment?

This has been the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I did not know what was going to happen. But it helped me to take courage, to face everything. Being there behind bars was horrible but gave me strength.

You have been alone in Thailand a little more than two weeks now, how much longer do your lawyers estimate you will be away from home?

Honestly, I don’t know. We are doing everything, as the law requires in Thailand. We are waiting for the officers to finish their investigation to see what proceeds and see what route to take.

On social media, you mentioned that you connected with a Puerto Rican who lives in Thailand. How did this happen?

Well I connected with Jason thanks to a friend who is a promoter and used to be part of Nicky Jam's team long time ago. He's let me stay at his house and helped me with procedures and requirements that I'm facing because of this difficult situation. Jason has become a brother.

Now that you mention Nicky Jam, he got married this weekend, would you like to send him a message?

I was going to sing at Nicky Jam's wedding. He called me and asked, "Tell me how can I help you." Nicky has a gigantic heart. I am blessed to know him for a long time. I sent him a message already but I want to take this opportunity to congratulate and wish him the best. I have learned a lot from him and I am very happy that he has taken that step in his life.

Anyone in your situation would be desperate but you sound very calm.

I was a child raised in the gospel. God never moves away from anyone and within this situation I feel at peace but also very anxious. I want to go home, but this time has helped me to reconnect with God and this moment has helped me analyze myself.

What message do you want to send to your family, fans and the media?

I want to thank everyone who has been worried about me. I miss my family a lot and this situation is going to end very soon.
