MGM TV and Gato Grande Productions won't be the only ones developing a series based on Luis Miguel's life.

Univision announced its forthcoming Luis Miguel television series with Mexican producer Diego Torres attached to the project along with his production company Curiosity Media. The announcement was made at the NATPE conference in Miami on Wednesday (Jan. 18).

"This is going to be an unforgettable series about one of the biggest artists of our time," Lourdes Diaz, president of entertainment, Univision Communications Inc., said in a statement. "This series is part of our efforts to bring Univision’s young and loyal fan base a robust line-up of highly quality programs whether they be unscripted realities, gritty crime dramas or biopics, such as this series on the legendary Luis Miguel."

Torres added: "I am honored to work with Univision to bring to life the special, one-of-a-kind story of Luis Miguel’s musical career and his passion for life."

News of the new Univision production comes just months after Gato Grande Productions, Metro Goldwyn-Mayer’s new joint venture, acquired the rights to the chart-topping artist's life story.

"It has taken me a long time to want to tell my story and I have been looking for the right team to tell it the way it should be told," Luis Miguel said in a statement. "Mark and the Gato Grande team are the perfect partners for this."
