On the set of Residentes “Todos somos anormales”

After much anticipation, Calle 13 alum Residente dropped his new single "Somos anormales (We Are Abnormal)" today (Jan. 13) along with a visually compelling music video. The radical and edgy track, which celebrates diversity, is a collaboration with Siberian musicians from Tuva, located in central Asia. "Somos anormales" is the first single from his forthcoming visual album for which he traveled the world to create music based on his DNA.

Residente wastes no time in delivering shock value in the eye-popping, definitely NSFW clip. The video kicks off with different  people, including actor John Leguizamo, literally being "born," stark naked, from the vagina of a woman laying inside a gian egg (yes, it's quite graphic). Soon, everything devolves into chaos before the unexpected, amorous ending.

"The usage of the word 'abnormal' allowed me to break the negative connotation of the word and make it into an inclusive term. If there is something we all have in common, it's that we're all different," the Puerto Rican singer/songwriter said in a statement.

While the lyrics do question the origins of humanity, whether the egg or the chicken came first, it all comes down to one thing: "We're more similar than we think," says Residente. "We divide ourselves into two big social groups: the clean ones or the ones who have the power and the dirty ones that don't have a lot. Everything was born out of a fight and from then on the struggle has continued."

The video directed by Residente also stars actors Leonor Watling and Oscar Jaenada and was filmed in Madrid.
