Residente Launches Website With Documentary & Song Teasers

After traveling the world for two years and reconnecting with his roots and discovering new music from four different continents, René Pérez, aka Residente, is sharing his experience with fans through a recently launched website that contains an interactive map of the world with behind-the-scenes photos and teasers of his new music and documentary.

According to the site, his interest in exploring different cultures and their music were sparked by a DNA test. Among those countries he visited are Russia, Spain, Ghana and China. "I decided to make music based on my DNA," the Puerto Rican singer tweeted.

"Everything that surrounds me affects me and as an artist, I feel the responsibility to reflect that. That's why I collaborated with talented artists, artists that the musical industry doesn't know of because they don't pay attention to them, artists that make music without expecting something in return, artists whom I share DNA with, just how they shared their stories with me," the Calle 13 alum said in a statement.

The launch of the website comes days after the Latin Grammy and Grammy award-winning artists signed a multi-platform, multi-year agreement with Fusion Media Group (FMG), a division of Latin media giant Univision Communications.

The five-year deal encompasses development of new multimedia content that includes music, television and digital content, as well as merchandising, sponsorships, endorsements and touring.

"In a system that cannibalizes true art, this partnership is a real oasis -- it places art and creative freedom at its center, and I can’t wait to start sharing my first pieces over the coming weeks," Residente said about the partnership. His first solo album is expected to drop next year and will embark on a world tour, with dates to be announced in spring 2017.
